Joint Welder

Job Description

The Joint Welder (internationally known as a Tack Welder) is a specialist who ensures the correct positioning of metal parts according to the drawing and their temporary fixing (tack welding) before the main welding process. This role is responsible for the geometric accuracy of the structure.

Responsibilities

• Assembling parts: Positioning metal plates, pipes, or profiles against each other according to project documents (drawings).
• Tack welding: Placing small but strong weld points to hold parts in position before the main welder begins work.
• Measurement and accuracy: Checking that parts are at exactly the correct angle using a tape measure, square, and laser level.
• Maintaining the gap: Ensuring the required distance (e.g. 3 mm) between two metal pieces for full penetration.
• Preventing deformation: Placing tack welds in a specific sequence and quantity to prevent the metal from warping due to heat during welding.
• Surface preparation: Cleaning rust and paint from areas where tacks will be placed.
• Removing weak tacks: If a tack has cracks or porosity, grinding it off and re-welding it.
