Stonemason

Job Description

The Stonemason (mason) is a specialist who builds walls, partitions, and structures from brick, natural stone, concrete blocks, and other artificial materials on construction sites. This trade requires both physical stamina and high precision.

Responsibilities

• Masonry work: Laying walls, columns, and foundations with brick, cut stone (blocks), concrete blocks, or decorative stone.
• Mortar preparation: Preparing construction mortar from a mixture of cement, sand, and water in the correct proportions.
• Accuracy and levelling: Using a plumb line, spirit level, and strings to ensure the wall being built is perfectly vertical and horizontal.
• Cutting and shaping: Working with a hammer, chisel, or electric cutting tools to cut stones to the required size.
• Insulation: Placing thermal or sound insulation materials between walls.
• Joints: Neatly filling joints between stones and ensuring an aesthetic finish.
• Safety: Properly using scaffolding erected at height and following safety rules during work.
• Work sites: Mainly work on the construction of residential buildings, private houses, and the restoration of historical monuments.
