Job Description

The Sandblaster is a specialist who cleans metal, concrete, or other hard surfaces using high-pressure compressed air and abrasive materials (sand, grit, shot). This work is a critical stage in fully preparing a surface before applying paint or an insulation layer.

Responsibilities

• Surface preparation: Fully cleaning metal structures, pipes, or ship hulls of old paint, rust, and moisture traces.
• Equipment operation: Monitoring the working condition of the sandblast pot, compressor, and hoses, and regulating pressure.
• Abrasive selection: Selecting the correct blasting material (quartz sand, metal grit, copper slag, etc.) for the type of work and loading it into the pot.
• Cleanliness grade control: Ensuring the metal is cleaned to a "bare metal" shine in accordance with international standards (e.g. Sa 2.5 or Sa 3).
• Profile creation: Creating the required surface roughness (anchor profile) on the metal for good paint adhesion.
• Protective measures: Masking off parts that should not be painted or could be damaged with special tape.
• Safety (HSE): Always using a special air-fed helmet, heavy coveralls, and gloves during work.
• Working conditions: This trade is considered one of the heaviest and dustiest jobs, requiring both physical endurance and strict discipline from the sandblaster.
